The first part of the seminar is aimed to the discussion of the single components of the organic plan of preventive preservation. It consists of safety files arrangement, contingency plans, care and maintenance of the book collections and staff and user training. Particular attention is pointed at the techniques of checking the microclimate, through the study of the factors that can be affect the conditions of the material preservations and the consequences that they can be cause. The main techniques of intervention concerning the menaces to book collections (such as infestations, infections and abjections of paper components) are analysed.

From 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Maria Giovanna Fasulo Rak

The second part of the seminar is aimed to the examination of “direct actions” for preservation. These actions are based on the consideration that book, both ancient and modern, is a document of culture material and a testimony of individual and collective stories. In particular they tend to analyse the restore in its ambivalence. Besides, in this second part, programming and planning of the restore interventions are illustrated, as well as the “project file/card” and a survey card. This last card is strictly dedicated to modern book which is now being drawn up, cooperating with the central institute for book pathology.

From 4.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

At the end of the seminar, there will be a tour of the BNCR restore laboratory.
Since the available places are limited, you are bound to book the place once you enter for the seminar. The first forty received requested will be accepted.
