Music and Multimedia

The Music and Multimedia room, opened to the public in 2001, deals with research in music and musicology field and with the consultation of multimedia documents. Over 10.000 documents are at disposal of the users. Besides, it is possible to ask for books that are preserved in book stores, with the exception of those ones filed in Manuscripts room. In the S.MUS area users find a wide open-shelf bibliographic apparatus. It consists of Italian and international repertories, bibliographies, music and musician catalogues, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, treaties, year-books, discographies, music and musical instruments histories, biographies and Italian and foreign musical revues. Recently, some areas concerning pop-rock music, Italian music, singer-song-writers' biographies and most popular bands' stories have been increasing.

Bibliographical research is bound to be enriched by F.SIC area (the fund owned by Maestro Francesco Siciliani, 1911-1996). It includes several texts of literature, philosophy, art, music and musicology, many orchestra scores, over 6.000 records of the most famous composers and all the vanguard experimentations of 60's and 70's of the twentieth-century.

A part of the room hosts the "Biblioteca dell'Istituto di Bibliografia Musicale" (IBIMUS) which includes both very important bibliographical instruments and musical revues collections. The room, in association with the Tiflodidattico Centre, set up 2 computerized positions reserved to visually handicapped people; moreover, it takes part in "Progetto Libro Parlato".

From other multimedia positions it is possible to consult the main bibliographical and full text databanks and on-line databanks both in musicological sphere and in different BNCR's areas sphere.

From audiovisual positions it is possible to listen to the music and watch videotapes or DVDs.
