Modern manuscripts: old and new skills for curators
Manuscripts curators are now facing new professional challenges. Owing to the spreading of information technology and to substantial changes in libraries’ management, while cooperation is becoming a very important issue, their traditional training has to be integrated with new skills both in information technology and in management.
Starting with my experience at the Biblioteca Casanatense, a historical library very rich in manuscript collections, questions such as human resources, investments, cooperation will be taken into account to define a new level of requirements aiming at promoting and preserving the manuscript heritage and enhancing its knowledge. But in spite of the transformations we are facing we must always think of “memoria scripta” as “memoria tradita”.
